Mission: Season One, Episode Two - Effigies of the Doomed
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current

I Grace looked at the display screen in front of her in complete surprise. She'd seen this before, but what was startling was that she never expected to see 'this' again -especially not on Nomad.
The DNA readout was conclusive, it was Rizzari.

Kiay, the ship's 'chief of the boat' and new found friend had found the DNA trace, he didn't go into too much detail as to how he happened upon the sample however, expressed that he'd came across it whilst being alone in the first officer's quarters -the quarters that he'd been sharing the last couple of days after his were destroyed during the trip through the void.

"I'm not quite sure I want to know how you came across this, Kiay, but I think it's abundantly clear that we need to follow this up with either Commander Pierce or Commander Niamh, [the ship's mission specialist.]"

There had been a lot of rumours circulating about Kiay sharing Commander Dynehart's quarters. Kiay was half Risan and it would appear that his people's reputation had proceeded him. That and the fact that Kiay's improper relationship with a Starfleet admiral caused him to be stationed on Nomad. Despite all this, Grace believed Kiay to be genuine, that he had nothing to hide and nothing to gain by bringing his findings to the Doctor.
Grace knew that they all had something to loose if the first officer was a spy, yet she didn't really know how to go about all of this.

Dismissing the young chief of the boat, telling him to leave this with her, Grace moved into her office and sunk down in front of her desktop computer.
As she sat there, pondering what to do with this brand new information, the doors to her office slid open and in walked Rick Prymm, the Nomad's assistant chief medical officer.

" Boss." he said. He had a padd in his hand. He saw that the head doc looked like she was in deep thought. " Penny for your thoughts?"

"Tell me, Rick..." -Grace started, somewhat deflated, "...have you ever been in a situation where you've been forced to choose between doing the right thing and doing what's best for the sake of the mission?"

" Once." he replied. " My ship was tasked with providing relief for a settlement during an Ion storm. My group was hunkered down and a colonist found our camp. We only had a finite amount of supplies and our engineer was bad off. So was the colonist and I had to make a choice."

Grace sat up a little more upright, "Well, don't stop there." -she smiled half heartedly.

God that was years ago!" Rich said. " Even forgot the name of the planet!" he added. " I was a senior cadet on my first away mission. The storm was so rough that it made a hurricane look like a sunny day. Our shuttle was not in any condition to fly. The engineering officer was injured with a fractured radius and a minor burn across his arm"

" We took refuge in a cave close to our landing site with what supplies we could carry. All I had was basically my kit and an emergency kit we salvaged. I went to treating our man then a colonist hobbled into our cave. He looked like crap and I went over to see what I could do, well aware of our logistical situation. Quick triage showed that the colonist needed me a heck of a lot more but the EO could fix the shuttle. The shuttle commander ordered me to help Starfleet personnel first."

Grace appreciated the distraction. Rick didn't really help her with her decision making, but she appreciated getting to know a bit more about her assistant.
"Thank you." -she replied. With that, the computer beeped. Grace tapped the small display screen in front of her and watched as a bio readout changed to that of an incoming message from Brooke. It's title: 'Urgent, please read.'
Grace tapped another control and dispatched the incoming message to the PaDD adjacent to her computer.

"Well, Mr. Prymm, I must crack on." -she said rising, picking up the PaDD, "I believe Nurse Quainoo required some help in the medical ward. If you get time, can you make sure you recalibrate the bio-bed sensors, I think they're out of alignment again."

"Sure. I'll get right on it. " Rick said

Grace didn't stick around to hear Prymm's reply. Whatever was in that message had clearly spooked her. She rushed out of the sickbay quickly, making her way to the bridge...
