Personal History Charlotte Multon was born on Soltok IV in 2366. The colony was one of many that changed hands to Cardassian Jurisdiction in the treaty of 2370. Charlotte was left with an elderly neighbor when she was 5 years old as her parents ventured off to join the Maquis. In 2372 she was related to a Dominion refugee facility on an asteroid. It was a grim existence with minimal food and minimal stimulation. She did not hear from her parents again until the Dominon War ended in 2375. Both parent had been captured by the federation and imprisoned for terrorism related crimes. Charlotte was relocated to the Federation penal colony in New Zealand to be reunited with her parents. Federation penal colonies are not hard places, but all sorts of people are able to influence a young girl.

Her parents remained angry at the Federation. Charlotte, who the prisoners started to call Charlie, did not understand. The penal colony was many times better than the refugee camp, and the refugees had not even committed any crimes.

Charlie was educated in the colony school, and excelled in several fields. She especially liked building things in the colony workshop. Her own tricorder, when she was 11. A mobile sensor grid when she was 13. A wearable augmented reality display when she was 15. She was nominated to Star Fleet Academy by the prison warden when she was 17.

It was at the academy that she realized how famous her parents were, infamous really. They were weapons thieves, and traders, the best at their work until they were finally captured in 2374. Charlie had trouble earning the trust of other cadets. Some of her instructors were antagonistic. It was a hard four years.

In 2388, things were really no better; she loved the idea of Starfleet. But it didn’t really love her back.

One of her instructors, he taught her intelligence analysis class, stopped her outside her dorm room. It was the day after she had returned from her senior cadet cruise. She was frustrated still that her parentage was such an issue. She had to work twice as hard as everyone else, and was ready to give it all up. Captain Talbot told her about a ship where her past wouldn’t matter, and she could build a reputation of her own. The Nomad.
